Roles Available for Teenagers 15+ and Adults 18+
This is a cut show that not all auditionees will be casted in

Auditions:
April 2nd from 1:30-4:30

Shows:
August 4th-6th

Callbacks:
April 3rd from 5:30-8:30

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words. At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation directed by Grace Galinski.

What to Expect:

  • Auditions will be at 161 Davis Road in Bangor on Sunday April 2nd from 1:30 to 4:30

  • Auditionees will be expected to stay for the entire audition time

  • Parents/Guardians will need to come inside to fill out paper work before auditions can begin, but are free to leave once all filled out

  • We will give everyone a chance to perform their character song(s) before moving onto cold reads for each character

  • Depending on how many people show up and how much material people want to audition with, we may end auditions earlier than scheduled!

To Prepare:

Each auditionee needs to prepare at least one character song from this list along with a song of their choice no more than one minute long to showcase their comfortable range. You can find full character descriptions in our rehearsal folder.

  • Adult Female Role (18+): "The Spelling Bee Rules/My Favorite Moment of the Bee 1"

  • Adult Male Role (18+): "Prayer of the Comfort Counselor"

  • Olive Ostrovsky (15+): "My Friend, the Dictionary"

  • William Barfée (15+): "My Favorite Moment of the Bee 3/Second"

  • Logainne Schwartzy (15+): "Woe is Me"

  • Marcy Park (15+): "I Speak Six Languages"

  • Leaf Coneybear (15+): "I'm Not That Smart"

  • Chip Tolentino (15+): "My Unfortunate Erection

    • Any person of any gender identity or presentation can audition for any of these characters as well as prepare any of these songs to best showcase their abilities

**People of all identities (racial, ethnic, gender, etc.) are more than welcome to audition for any role and will be considered with the same level of fairness. We're more focused on showcasing the talent of our performers and not casting to any preconceived expectation of any characters.

Specific lyrics and rehearsing tracks can be found in our audition folder linked above! We have specific cuts of each song that we would like to hear everyone perform, so please only prepare what is asked of you :)

Not every auditionee will be asked to join us at callbacks, but everyone should look over callback expectations in our "Audition Information" document in our rehearsal folder and be familiar with all selections in case you are called back for a role you did not originally audition for.

Rehearsals:

Our basic rehearsal schedule for May through July is as follows:

  • Mondays 5:30-8:30

  • Fridays 5:30-8:30

  • Sundays 10:00 - 5:00 *with an hour lunch break

Actors will not need to attend every rehearsal nor for the entire duration of some. Our production team is prepared to work around anyone's busy schedules and do not expect performers to dedicate all of their time to rehearsals, so please do not hesitate to let directors know of time conflicts regarding these rehearsals!

Rehearsals start May 8th
